Expenses

I have outlined below how I would operate if elected as Member of Parliament for the Wallasey constituency at the next election.  For details of the standards set by David Cameron for Conservative MPs and the Shadow Cabinet, click here.  You can also take part in our survey on MPs’ expenses.

If elected as the next MP for Wallasey and Moreton, I will:

  • Run a staffed, constituency office and publish the names of those staff
  • Claim for standard class rail tickets only for travel between Wallasey and Westminster
  • Publish details of any expenses as they are made, on this website
  • Pay for political leaflets myself or from my local Party
  • Submit my accounts for independent audit
  • Not take on any ’second’ jobs
  • Not employ members of my family
  • Not use any of the £10,000 communications allowance for MPs
  • Not accept gifts or hospitality from lobbyists or interest groups
  • Not claim for any expenses which are not directly related to my work as an MP
  • Not claim for the cost of tax advice

On this page, I have also listed what I currently receive to help me carry out my responsibilities as a Councillor on the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, representing Liscard & Egremont.  The ward has around 11,000 registered voters and my role is to work with residents on issues in our community.

As an elected Councillor, I do:

  • Receive a monthly allowance of approximately £600 net of PAYE
  • NOT receive the increased level of allowances voted by Councillors last year
  • Have use of a Council provided laptop and Internet connection
  • Record all gifts and hospitality from residents with the Council’s monitoring officer
  • Not make use of the free meals at the Town Hall
  • Not make use of a Council-provided personal website
  • Not claim any travel expenses
