    Karen and team,

As a labour voter I have to say I have been very impressed with your hard work on this local elections campaign. The amount of material sent does have a positive effect if only showing who is more eager to become elected. Im unsure if this alone is enough to swing voters who are just concerned with local issues but in my opinion it goes a long way.

Keep up the great work im sure it will pay off.

    Hello Leah and Karen
Do you have any news about what is really happening about the Serpentine Road / Oxford Road / Hawarden Ave saga? Hopefully the powers that be have reassessed the impact of the proposed road closure.
Do you know about the future of the old Liscard Hall/Arts College? We have heard that it is going to be converted into luxury apartments – have you any ideas as to its future?
What is happening to the old cinema complex in Liscard? There seems to be developers moving in do you know what they are going to do there? Again there are rumours around – have you any ideas as to what is going there?
Also the waste of our council taxes recently has been amazing. We live in a road where there are no gardens, merely small yards/patio areas and yet without asking if we needed one, the whole street was dispatched with a brown garden waste bin. Most of our neighbours have individually (and collectively) requested that they are returned. We all phoned within a few days of each other early February, but the Biffa collectors could not/would not collect them at the same time, this was done one by one. Even though we and other neighbours went out and asked for ours to be included and that we had phoned when we saw the Biffa people there. Now there are still some people with bins even though they are not needed, and the trucks will come down the road unnecessarily thinking that there may be a bin or two to collect. A total waste of time. By the way it took me about 6 phone calls and 2 emails to get mine collected – February to April – such a waste of time and money. Our blue recycling bags are no longer being collected – again no warning. I had to make a phone call to street scene again to be told that I have to wait till the grey bins are delivered! Great – when will that be???

Again I contact you about the traffic in Martins Lane it’s getting worse and we seem to be getting nothing done Every day I find I have to fight my way home with cars parked on both sides of the road from early morning into the evening I find I am facing aggressive speeding drivers Today on my way to Traffalgar Road I noticed a ’speed monitor’ displaying the speed of the cars going along Serpentine Road when is this going to be placed in Martins Lane? As we have discussed before the traffic problem is in the whole area not just one road yet this seems to be the only road getting this attention Do we have to have a serious accident of death before something is done here because I fear that is only a metter of time before that happens

    Hello Leah and Karen,

I was wondering what is to happen to the public footpath that used to run down the South Easterly side of the Apollo Cinema building site joining King Street and Rudgrave Mews. There was a footpath there from at least before 1947 until the demolition of the cinema and I was dismayed to see that when the developers demolished the cinema they craftily pinched that strip of land to add to thier building plot.

    Hi Leah,

Very sorry to hear about your father in law.
It maks my little issue seem so trivial as it is people that matter much much more than gripes and material issues.

Anyway the reason I am contacting you regarding the rather over zealous enforcement of the parking restrictions on Mosslands Drive.

This is the yellow line that prevents parking between 0900 and 1800 Sat and Sun between September and May – put in place due to the parking problems caused by the people playing football on the Mosslands Boys school field.

However due to the bad weather no games are being played and I had no alternative to park on the main road overnight as my normal parking space outside my house had been stolen by a very large Iceland van belonging to someone who actually lives on the opposite side of the road.

There is no game on today, I was not causing an obstruction (10am) and as it was raining thought that the wardens would not be out in this weather and was just going out when I got the ticket.

I have been a resident here for over 7 years and have never seen a parking warden until last year when they suddenly started enforcing the restriction (even on days when there is no football being played).

Is there any posssibility of residents parking permits so that we can park on our own road (when I got a ticket last year it was due to my own space being taken by one of the frequent allotment visitors!).

I will appeal the ticket but will probably get turned down even though there were several witnesses to the van taking my space and have to pay up.

    Regards,

    Tony

    Leah,
I have emailed Jean Quinn as you suggested (re the school crossing cuts) and requested also that the council look first at their own costs – and I mean a darn good and long look – before they start on the services that we pay so much for.
I think that the boys and girls in their various “cabinets” need to think outside their boxes before they come to us with a list of cuts.
Is it on record the percentage of our tax that goes toward Wirral Borough employees pensions? And is there an extrapolation on this figure over, say, the next twenty years? Is there any intention of altering the pension structure of public service employees along the lines of private industry i. e. no more final salary schemes? I know Gordon had a pathetic attempt some months ago – and quickly backed off at the slightest sign of opposition from the unions.
You could tell by this that I’m a pensioner and on a fixed income? It’s true – but I’m lucky – I have a friend who is shortly retiring and whose pension pot has been reduced by 40% in the last few months. You can imagine his state of mind as all his long-laid plans for a comfortable retirement come crashing down about his head. No doubt HIS gas and electricity direct debits have. like mine, also been increased by 56%. Where does it end?
    Sincerely
    Arthur Green

    Hi

I work as a bus driver for Arriva.
Following your comments on new buses for Arriva. These buses are low floor and easy access for elderly and disabled passengers. However they are only used properly if we can get our new buses into the bus stop, but a lot of the time this is impossible due to selfish people parking at bus stops.
Is there anything you can do to try and sort this problem out?

Dear Ms fraser, I am one of the unfortunate people who live very near to the converted shop on the corner of Halstead Road and Poulton Road. (Two flats)
It has been the norm for such a long time now not to get a decent nights sleep and to feel intimidated when walking to the shops nearby when youths are hanging around the said property with their bottles and cans of beer, the swearing and shouting that takes place daily. Although that is nothing compared to being woken up at all hours of the night with fighting, screeching, glass smashing, arguments, violence and the continuous police visits which then is followed by what appears to be a lot of hammering and banging as doors and windows are secured!! These incidents can last for up to four hours by which time it is almost time to be up for work and the youths then go to bed for the rest of the day only to start again the next night! The glass I might add is hardly ever cleaned up.
The only peace the residents have had in the past year was when the property was vacant. I wished it would stay that way but no, more disrespectful, inconsiderate youths moved in and then it started all over again.
This area of Poulton used to be quite nice but it all deteriorated when the shop was converted to a dwelling and youths started hanging around the shops. The land alongside the property which is in Halstead Road is an eyesore and needs dealing with. The landlord should be made to tidy it up and remove the ugly razor wire which has appeared along the top of the scruffy row of garages. The council should tidy up the side entry too which is also an eyesore.
Someone should do something especially with the number of adults and children who have to walk past it daily. Personally I have stopped using the shops nearby and walk in the other direction whenever possible so I do not have to be confronted by these yobs.

    Dear Leah
    Toeing the party line.
I suspect that like most candidates, you will tell us whatever you think we want to hear in order that you might get elected… right?

But once/if elected, it will be business as usual i.e. you will do exactly what you are told by the Conservative hierarchy and we the long suffering voters will once again be ignored until the pantomime starts all over again… at the next election.

I feel quite confident in suggesting that most people have worked this out for themselves and that the only real motivation for voting is to ‘get rid of this lot’ in much the same way that they voted to get rid of your lot in 1997. Such is the growing cynicism of the average voter, many just don’t bother voting at all.

People are waking up to the fact that the problem with politics is the party system itself… i.e. candidates owe their selection to a small cabal in the party and it is to this small group that candidates must give allegiance and not the voters.

This being the case… what is it that you are offering Wallasey voters that an obedient wind-up stuffed parrot couldn’t offer? (no offence intended)… or for that matter an independent candidate… who would bend over backwards to keep his/her constituents happy and not a party hierarchy?

1Would you support a system of recall that would make you subject to the whim of voter dissatisfaction?

Would you support a system of local on-line referenda to establish what it is the majority of people want?

Would you support a charter outlining the principles of governance?

85% of the British people were opposed to the Lisbon Treaty – but a majority of MP’s voted in favour – demonstrating their complete disregard for the opinions of their electors and their obvious subservience to the party machine.

Would you support a motion for the Lisbon Treaty to be repealed?

Would you support a motion to reassert the supremacy of our parliament over that of the unelected EU Commission?

Would you support a motion that the British Constitution should be the highest law in the land – superior to EU law?

Would you support a motion that the authority of ‘Royal Assent’ should reside exclusively with Her Majesty the Queen – on behalf of the people and the practice of ‘Automatic Assent’ be curtailed.

Would you support a motion that our sovereignty be reinstated?

Would you support a motion that if the majority of people so wished it… that we would reclaim our national independence… and construct a free trading relationship with Europe… devoid of political controls?

Would you support a motion that the supremacy of law should be determined by a British Court and not the European Court?

    Your answers much appreciated.

    Sincerely

    Roger Hayes

      Hello Roger

I will answer your 12 (I think it’s 12) questions, in the order you have raised them or the points you have made.

First, I will no more tell people what they want to hear than you did in 1997 when you ran for MP in Wallasey. Candidates who do that don’t last very long for precisely the reasons you have outlined.

Second, we are breaking down the ’small cabal’ as you call it by introducing opn primary selections – starting with the selection of council candidates in two wards in this constituency. No other Party, Labour, Lib Dem or UKIP, has done this. We have also started to use this procedure in recent Parliamentary selections, such as Totnes.

I am offering voters a) a credible alternative to the current incumbent – as we have seen from recent elections in this constituency, no other Party can beat Labour and b) a candidate who lives here, works here and who is not afraid to challenge the Party line or to say when I disagree with it. I am a member of the Conservative Party because I share a majority of the beliefs and principles and support a majority of its policies – note ‘majority’ not ‘all’.

The rest of your questions were covered in my recent survey to several thousand voters in the post (and online) around the subject of MPs’ expenses:

      1. Yes, I do support the power of recall
      2. Yes, I support (and the Conservatives in the Town Hall have frequently called for) local referenda
      3. Please be more specific when you ask about a ‘Charter of Governance’. Are you referring to the same issues we have proposed for a new British Bill of Rights, to replace the Human Rights Act?
      4. In terms of the Lisbon Treaty and as a former Referendum Party candidate, I am sure you are well aware that the Conservative MPs voted in favour of a referendum and we continue to support this, as you can see from the campaigns page of our national Party site.
      5. Yes, I believe Britain’s Parliament should have supremacy over the EU and the Commission. That was one of the key aims in my Party’s European election manifesto. This answers your final questions which are all related and on the same issue. The EU should be an alliance of free trading nations, nothing more.

Hope this helps to explain where I stand.

I note my most recent comment regarding the CCTV car has been left pending moderation. Is it going to be looked at? I would love to read your reply.
