How much?
Over the last two days I’ve attended the Public Inquiry into the Council’s closures of 11 libraries across Wirral. But why on earth did they Council need a barrister? The Inquiry was not conducted in a court of law or presided over by a judge. It was a fact-finding hearing to assist the Secretary of State.
Instead of a barrister, why didn’t the Leader of the Council or any of his Cabinet take part in the Inquiry? Once again, Wirral Council has confused its priorities and used taxpayers’ money to do it.
The Council started with the payment of £100,000 for a consultation to advise them there wasn’t enough money to run the libraries and now the council has added insult to injury by paying for a barrister to defend that decision.
This is yet further evidence that the current leadership is out of touch.
