Marching to Birkenhead Town Hall with Cllr James Keeley and Cllr Paul Hayes

At 11.30am this morning, I joined demonstrators who assembled at Wallasey Town Hall and marched to Birkenhead Town Hall, along with Cllr James Keeley, Cllr Paul Hayes and Cllr Ian Lewis against the proposed cuts to services.

About 200 people joined the march on what must have been the coldest day of the year – it was below freezing.  Speakers at Birkenhead Town Hall kept their speeches short but effective.  The message to Cllr Steve Foulkes was ‘we will not put up and shut up’.  Many believe that the Strategic Asset Reveiw to close libraries, community centres and swimming pools should be scrapped altogether.

There were mums and babies, pensioners and children many of whom had never demonstrated before but felt so strongly about these cuts that they were motivated to join in and wanted to make their feelings known.
