21 Years of RASA

Last week, I went to the Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (RASA) for women which is based in Birkenhead but covers the whole of Merseyside, with my colleague, Eve Sorrell to find out more and see how the Centre is run.

We met the wonderful Jo Woods, a caring and inspirational lady who runs the Centre and helps the survivors of sexual violence.  In an average month the Centre will received 70 calls from existing service users, 70 ‘silent’ calls, 40 counselling sessions take place, 30 new women call and 12 women report a rape.

In an ideal world women who have experienced sexual violence would feel free to speak out about what had happened to them without fear of disbelief or blame.  We do not live in an ideal world.

RASA is funded through various grants and agencies and through their own fundraising efforts.  For more information : www.rasamerseyside.org
