School dental screening is axed

Wirral’s Primary Care Trust has axed the child dental screening programme in the borough’s non-special schools.  The dental screening programme was a valuable way for the NHS to pick up on any child dental problems early on.  It’s a service that pre-dates the NHS – it was introduced in 1918 and survived until last year.

The PCT must now tell us what alternatives they are offering instead, particularly as kids in Wirral have above-average levels of dental decay.
