‘Enhancing market transparency’
During an exchange in Parliament, Treasury Minister and present MP for Wallasey, Angela Eagle was asked for the Government’s assessment of the impact of tax rises on drivers, replied saying they wanted to ‘enhance market transparency’ but confirmed that the 2p a litre tax rise on petrol would take place in three months.
I’m afraid that ‘enhancing market transparency’ is not quite the answer people will be wanting in the face of the rocketing cost of living.
The Government, particularly the Treasury, is responsible for the rise in tax on the low paid, on car owners and on anyone who buys a pint down the pub. In three months’ time, the Government plans to add another 2p to every litre of fuel as well. They are completely out of touch.
The exchange in Parliament followed a survey last week by ASDA showing families are worse off after the Government’s pay rise and comes during a threatened rebellion amont Labour MPs over Government’s failure to compensate the low paid who lost out when the 10p rate of tax was scrapped.
