Post Office closures – again

The Liscard Action Team were out and about this morning in the town centre collecting signatures for our petition against Post Office closures in Wallasey, after it was announced on Tuesday that the Post Office on Poulton Road is to close, with further closures across Wirral.

Under the plans, the Government aims to cut 2,500 branches from the Post Office network.  The cuts are designed to ensure that 95% of people are within six miles of their nearest Post Office branch.

Post Offices are vital to Wallasey (we’ve already lost eight) and I don’t believe that a 12-mile round trip is reasonable or realistic for some of the most vulnerable people who live here.

I believe that these plans should be scrapped and new businesses bought into the network instead.

I would recommend that you try and get a Post Office in the background next time instead of a pawnbrokers!
